Decision of the judges on final:

Bengau comments:

My decision was based on the following fundamentals of uppers: innovations, upper essence/rhythm, individuality, hardcoreness. Exactly in this order. Difficulty didn’t play a key role for me because when it comes to finals we have 4 freestylers that have already proven themselves an excellent athletes who are able to perform difficult stuff. But the winner shapes the vector for the next period so for me it’s more about leaving your comfort zone and suggesting innovations. At the same time the winner should have an excellent taste and feeling of upper style. And all of that stays on the basis of your individuality which delivers a complete picture.
Based on that my results are:
1. Cess
2. Tarasov
3. Abdullah
4. Rus-L
Cess: was rather pessimistic and expected 200% hardcore stuff. But you surprised me with fresh ideas. I don’t really feel that you can properly control your mind during combos so most of them go to pure hardcore way instead of adding some sauce, pauses and details. But that’s your style at the moment. Unbeatable for me in this final.
Tarasov: excellent effort. Played great with all the criteria i mentioned above. I guess you’ve shown the most significant improvement during the tournament. But Cess is here.
Abdullah: Surprised me. I liked how you tried to play with 360 movement, that was innovative and truly your. The biggest thing i miss is the upper rhythmical image – everything goes on the same tempo (mostly because it’s based on same movements). That’s your style, but Tarasov was better in terms of upper feeling which means a harmony of variety, rhythm and understanding of upper tools.
Rus-L: Good video, but compared to others didn’t susprised me with innovative ideas. The rest was good, but it didn’t seem enough in this final.

Daniel Atieh comments:

Warm congratulations for reaching this stage. Well done to all.

1)  CESS4

High level of upper demonstrated by the ability to switch between different parts of upper, and with great control. Some combinations were also interesting, but some combos were disrupted by different ideas appearing within the combo. Also, some executions could be done better. All in all, you showed a great final. Best wishes.

2) Tarasov

Organized and interesting uppers. I liked the video breakdown, and your execution was good. You showed a balance between different categories, which is also nice. The difficulty, and complexity of the combos were not as high as the first place, but definitely you have a big potential, so keep it up.

3) Abdullah Emad

Great dynamics with a mix of original moves in between, I like it. You probably have lack of control in some tricks as I noticed like in the true shoulder stall and some bounces were high, but it did not affect much according to me. The second place showed more structuring in the combos.

4) Rus-L

Great uppers, with great execution and combos. The main issue for me is that the variation should be increased, and the difficulty of the combos as well. With regards to the dynamics also, it can be improved. Regardless of this, you are doing enjoyable uppers and is in the right path.

Kuba Krawczyk comments:

1.CÉSS4 – cool variety in first combo with bounces on two sides this is hard, control in face tricks  is on very good level it can be seen from 0:40, well shown your high skill in true shoulders stalls (good ideas), 360 variations, top stalls, nose stalls, 2 revs. Your upper skills are the most complete of all finalists.

2.Tarasov – the first combo is a bit too long but your control ofcourse is on very good level, you have similar level to RuS-L in true shoulder stall but you mixing more tricks into this combos. Your flow is a bit better than RuS-L and the smoothness of workmanship as well.

3.RuS-L – cool ideas with true shoulders stall, pity about this stop in a combo 1:09. Control in face tricks a little worse than Tarasov.

4.Abdullah Emad – nice flow, some shoulder bounces have too high amplitudę, in some combos with your signature tricks you lacked control and had to keep moving to hold the ball. In combo from 2:25 missed ending stopping the ball on true shoulder stall. Cool to see original hard tricks but execution in this time it wasn’t perfect. It looks like you started recording too late and therefore the final is underdone.

Bulgara comments:

First of all, I would like to congratulate you all for making it to the finals. Every year the level in this category increases, and I am proud of you all for surpassing yourself and releasing great videos.

The first is without debate Cess, you are at the top of this game and deservedly crowned the winner. My favorite part of your video is 3:25. Congratulations.

Second to me is Abdullah. The difficulty of your tricks is admirable, sometimes I thought that some combos were more spontaneous than planned, but you are a master of timing and dynamic things combined with original tricks and interesting ideas.

Congratulations.

Tarasov will be third for me. Beautifly structured combos that have been thought out from start to finish. General control over all parts of the body. You are without a doubt one of the upcoming masters in the field. Congratulations.

The fourth is Rus-L. High level worthy of the final of this competition. The control was good and some interesting things were introduced. I have nothing to blame you, only the opponents were better. Don’t stop developing and I’m really looking forward to next year. Congratulations.

Finally, I would like to thank all the competitors, judges and organizers for making it possible for this traditional competition to continue. You all are an inspiration to me. Thank you very much and have a wonderful rest of your day!

Vitfs comments:

CESS

1st place. Hardcore – wise you are 3 heads above your opponents in this final. Great control, though style sometimes is not perfect and looks a little bit shaky. I do like combos at 1:19 and 2:44. “2rev” tricks are decent, except latms in combo at 1:24, for me it wan’t clean enough. Trick at 3:15 is top tier. I am waiting for even more original combo connections and less shaky combos from you.

Abdullah Emad

2nd place. Many combos are done as if by accident. Would be better if you delete these random messy cut clips and replace them with some short structured combos containing some original idea. I believe you have abilities for that. Music work episode starting at 1:25 was epic :). Still you have bunch of your signature tricks, which is pretty cool. Combo at 2:01 is super hard and stylish. Dynamics, style, individual tricks – i think it’s well deserved 2nd place.

Tarasov

Decision of the judges on 1/4 finals:

Bengau comments:

Abdullah Emad – luisfs
My vote goes to Abdullah.
Both video looked a bit repetitive to me. Being quite long, upper videos should represent more diversity within skills or ideas based on certain skill. Abdullah’s video was more pleasant to me.
First, both video were based on rather long combinations of repeating sequences. Based on my experience, Abdullah’s stuff wins in terms of difficulty because, being performed in such dynamical manner, simple moves get much harder. The stuff that Luis showed was pretty hard, but performed in easier manner.
In terms of originality Abdullah was more fresh as well. The signature stuff with lips and shoulder roller weights much.
However, Luis shown enough variations in basics to show a better flow next time.

Daniel Atieh comments:

RuS-L vs SERGEY SHMOTS
RuS-L takes it. Basically, both showed good level of uppers, but I was missing the difficulty expected in both videos. Ruslan had an edge according to me in this battle, as Sergey had more movements while performing some combos, indicating less ability of good control; the execution was problematic in some combos in terms of the height of the bounce, and finally the winner showed a more coherent combinations.

Abdullah Emad vs luisfs
Abdullah wins here. The combos were done smoothly, with some original moves in between. Probably the true shoulder stall control seems to be weak. Anyway, with regards to Luis, I have a couple of problems in your video: you should have the ability to control the speed of your combos i.e. when to increase/decrease speed, but I didn’t feel that in your video, as you were concentrating more on just higher speed of movements. Secondly, some additions to the combos were not necessary, as it started to feel more random and repetitive on some clips, so take that into consideration. Lastly, I barely saw any face combos in your video, so the combos should be more varied. Nonetheless, you have good ability in doing long combos.

Kuba Krawczyk comments:

CÉSS4 vs Animesh
Winner: CÉSS4 – Great! Very hard but also creative combos.

RuS-L vs SERGEY SHMOTS
It was not a one-sided duel, but RuS-L showed more variety, and flow at a better level, which is why he wins.
Winner: RuS-L

Tarasov vs Anton_uppers
Winner: Tarasov – Good job! Cool combos with a lot of variety.

Abdullah Emad vs luisfs
Ofcourse luisfs you have better 360 tricks than Abdullah but this isn’t all. Emad have better idea on upper combos (especially i like combo from 1:15) , in your combos  it sometimes seems that the idea is missing and some tricks is reapted in the same way. Abdullah also showed uppers on two sides but you didn’t show it. So this battle is won by Abdullah.
Winner: Abdullah Emad

Bulgara comments:

Abdullah vs Luis
Abdullah: I’m really glad that you took part, after so many years you’re still in great shape. Fast uppers, as always. The lip stall trick was beautiful. I’m waiting for some killer moves 👀
Luis: Veo que tienes un buen control. Solo estructura más tus combos y luego será genial. Sigue adelante y pronto encontrarás tu estilo. Sangre joven🤜🏻🩸
Winner: Abdullah

Rus-L vs Sergey
Rus-L: I know you can do much better combos, but overall a nice video with good control and it was good enough to beat your opponent. Congratulations
Sergey: You’re getting better and better, your neck stall still looks amateurish, but taking advantage of your weak side gives you extra points. Good potential, looking forward to further progress.
Winner: Rus-L

Decision of the judges on TOP11:

Bengau comments:

1. Cess. Killed it.
2. Serhey Shmots
3. Vlad Naum

1. Tarasov. Killed it in terms of variety, cleanness and aesthetics of uppers // Единственное что парит – длинные комбари для меня смотрятся скучно и бессодержательно.
2. luisfs. Hardcore video. Reminded me Cess in general. However in this stage the requirements for execution and ideas behind the combos get higher, and for me Tarasov was better at both. I miss aesthetics of upper movement in your style. Moves get faster and packed denser, but sometimes we need a proper pause to deliver the feeling of difficulty and art mixed in your creation.
3. ds_fs91. This group was way too hard for your level. Though i still like your control of nape and tophead moves, keep creating your style in this direction.

1. Abdullah Emad. Simply stronger than the opponents.
2. Anton_uppers.
3. Diego Granados.. Expected a bit more. Guess you had lack of time for recording the video. Lots of unclean movements and uncertain decisions in combos.

Guess something went wrong in the process of recording both videos. Both didn’t reach the level that you usually deliver. Tried to make decision based on these two videos leaving everything i know about your usual level and style outside of my mind. Honestly i was waiting for at least one combo in each videos which could win the battle. But it didn’t happen for me. So i made my decision based on my understanding of upperz.
1. Rus-L. Simply a more complete uppers in terms of variety, structure and execution.
2. Animesh. Felt bad about the execution of some moves (e.g. some atms went way too high; some moves didn’t come to a planned control point). That’s big mistake for me. I was putting my trust in that “wall” concept, but it wasn’t enough unfortunately.

Triple battle: CESS vs. SERGEY SHMOTS vs. Vlad Naum

Decision: CESS (1st), Vlad Naum (2nd), SERGEY SHMOTS (3rd)

Comments:

– Strong upper by CESS, with high difficulty and complexity. Some combos could be made a bit more organized though. Good luck.

– Vlad showed simple level combos, with some demonstrating lack of control. However, you showed planned combos, and more variation compared to the third place.

– I think Sergey could do much better, and show more. You could have easily got higher place in my opinion, but I felt that you should have shown more variety in the tricks. Good control in both sides.

Triple battle: Tarasov vs. luisfs vs. dk_fs91

Decision: Tarasov (1st), luisfs (2nd), dk_fs91 (3rd)

Comments:

– Tarasov, your uppers shows that you are moving in the right path, with good understanding. Looking forward for your next videos.

– My problem with luis is that he does not change the pace in the combos (i.e. you don’t necessarily have to do all tricks in a similar speed). The other thing is that the combos felt repetitive, for example: you start most of the combos in a similar way.

– dk_fs91: I like your upper, in that you focus on the basic stalls and try to master them. Only reasons for the third place is that others showed higher level in terms of difficulty, and some tricks you did were unclean.

Triple battle: Abdullah Emad vs. Anton_uppers vs. Diego Granados

Decision: Abdullah Emad (1st), Anton_uppers (2nd), Diego Granados (3rd)

Comments:

– Very smooth combos, Abdullah. I liked the combo at 0:47. Well done.

– Anton showed clean uppers, but could increase the difficulty of the combos. Keep it up.

– Diego: I can see improvement compared to your previous videos, so that is a good point. Still, you need better execution to your tricks. With improper execution, you can destroy the combo, regardless of its high level.

Battle: Rus-L vs. Animesh

Decision: Rus-L wins

Comments:

– I enjoy your combos, Rus-L. They are planned, and done well. You would need to increase the difficulty of the combos next time.

– Animesh, you showed a better uppers compared to your qualification. Work more on your execution of the basic tricks, and try to produce a more meaningful combos.

Wild card: SERGEY SHMOTS. You have a great potential to do something.

Kuba Krawczyk comments:

CÉSS4 vs SERGEY SHMOTS vs Vlad Naum

  1. CÉSS4

Good job! Very high level in a main of aspects in uppers (flow, difficulty, control), nice short creative combinations with true shoulder stalls. The only thing I can fault with combo from 1:19 to 1:47 are too many repetitions of a true shoulder stall downtime done the same way.  So I look forward to even more creative combinations in the next steps.

  1. SERGEY SHMOTS

Good control in 360 tricks. Nice level in atm orbit on both sides.

I don’t know what to think about hands movement in 1:42 after all it’s a basic trick.

Long combo isnt bad but you can work on your flow and creativity.

3.Vlad Naum

Getting better! Unfortunately your opponents are on a higher level than you are therefore third, but don’t worry, keep training. I think you should work on the basics on both sides to have more possibilities for interesting combos and at the same time the flow will be better and of course you will be able to  more use your creativity.

Tarasov vs luisfs vs dk_fs91

1.Tarasov

Cool ideas in 3 last short combos! Execution, flow, control and creativity are at a good level.

2.luisfs

I see you are on a high level in 360 tricks, but it’s not all in uppers. In some combos you add other tricks but this is a negligible amount so you should work on variety in combos. Your opponent (Tarasov) have better creativity, variety and his combos are more thoughtful combos so you are second.

3.dk_fs91

Good top head stall control. In combo from 0:43 some tricks is unclean. Cool idea on combo from 1:15. You should work on basic tricks in uppers because your flow is on very bad level. Flow and difficulty of tricks in your opponents is on another level so you are third.

Abdullah Emad vs Anton_uppers vs Diego Granados

1.Abdullah Emad

Very good! Your flow in uppers is on excellent level. I waiting for more combinations with 360.

2.Anton_uppers

Good control and execution. You know how to combine tricks that you can and make good combinations, it is appreciated. Keep it up!

3.Diego Granados

You must work on eliminated unnecessary stops in a combo. Your latm is getting better.

You are third,  you have better level on hard tricks than Anton but it isnt all. It looks like you lack ideas on how to combine the tricks you can in an interesting way. Anton has better control and execution of tricks and can combine them into interesting combos.

Rus-L vs Animesh

Winner: Rus-L

Nice combos but I wait for something harder. Too much rollers in combos, i think you can do something more creative. Execution in last trick of first combo should be better.

Loser: Animesh

In some cases, execution and control should be better so you must work on it. Your opponent is on another level in uppers so you are loser.

Wildcard

Animesh – I think he in  next step can show  the most interesting combinations from losers

Decision of the judges on qualification round:

Bengau comments:

1. Cess . King of control and hardcore in this tournament. Nothing to add. Hardcore uppers at its best.
2. Tarasov .
3. Abdullah Emad . Good video for qualification. Nicely balanced set of original and signature ideas, classic hardcore moves and smooth execution.
4. Rus-L.
5. Sergey Shmots .
6. dk_fs91. Controversial feelings. Your body language reminds me beginner. That puts strong limitations on the variations that you can perform. At the same time I clearly see certain skills that you work on , and you managed to deliver enjoyable qualifications based on your strong parts and hiding weaknesses. That reminded me oldschool approach of pushing limits in certain parts of freestyle mixed with smart ideas. I’m not sure your uppers were better than those of guys who I put lower in ranking, but you’re very different from typical modern upper freestylers and I show my appreciation to diversity of styles by making this decision.
7. Animesh. I admire your skills. Good control on roller and in speedy moves in general. But I missed logical pauses in your combos. Without pauses or certain points of balance your flow looks repetitive despite the variety that you have (I believe so). You need that contrast “speed-pause” in your uppers to highlight your skills.
8. Anton_uppers .
9. Luis_fs .Some parts of the video were impressive, especially your chest control. But to me there are obvious problems with execution caused by lack of control. Better try to record another clean attempt. Also I couldn’t notice any original concept in this video. These are two main reasons why I gave higher ranking to some participants with lower difficulty compared to your video (Anton_uppers,Animesh,dk_fs91).
10. Diego Granados. I see your potential- you have solid variety in basics and pretty good control. But 2 main problems in this video for me were: 1) unclean execution and bendy style sometimes. Pay attention to that, most of the clips you show should be executed perfectly (see how Vlad_upperz does it if you like his uppers) .2) uncertain ideas behind combos. For me it looked more like “best runs from recent sessions” than like a tournament video. Ideally each clip should be based on some upper idea. Again, see how Vlad builds up his videos. If you’ll work with that you can improve rapidly.
11. Vlad Naum .

Daniel Atieh comments:

To all the competitors: welcome. The level of the videos seemed fine overall, but there was a lack of structured ideas in many of the videos, and a poor execution in a couple. Anyway, the scores shown in the table does not reflect exact values or anything; they are just meant to show the different aspects I looked for, and how they compare in between the participants. Good luck.
